Diamond Rio Geared for Another Marathon
Jan. 5, 2009 Diamond Rio is once again revving up its fan-based
charity wing, Team Rio, with hopes of raising more than $100,000 for
charity through the annual Country Music Marathon.
With Arby’s serving as a sponsor, Team Rio has its first
meeting for the season Saturday at D1 Sports in Cool Springs, outside
of Nashville. Lead singer Marty Roe and guitarist Jimmy Olander have
traditionally run the 13-mile half-marathon with the team, accruing
funds for the mentoring organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle
Tennessee.
"If you have friends thinking about some healthy resolutions
and wanting to give back to the community, we're the perfect fit!" Team
Rio told prospective members in a year-end e-mail.
This year’s Country Music Marathon is set for April 25 in
Nashville. The event will also feature a major post-race concert the
same night at the Sommet Center downtown. In previous years, performers
have included Sara Evans, Lady Antebellum, Phil Vassar, Martina McBride
and Brad Paisley.

Martina, Chapin Aid New Christmas CDs
Dec. 23, 2008 Women made a major contribution to Christmas music
for the 2008 holiday season as acts such as Faith Hill, Julianne Hough
and Mary Chapin Carpenter delivered new albums. And even a yuletide
project featuring Elvis Presley paired him exclusively in duets with
female stars, including Martina McBride, Gretchen Wilson and Sara
Evans.
Doing a Christmas album sounds easy: Pick out your favorite
songs and slam them out. But the same songs have been recorded hundreds
of times, making it difficult for an artist to give the classics a new
attitude. And the music usually gets recorded when the musicians aren’t
really in the Christmas spirit.
A few observations on some of this year’s new Christmas music:
Mary Chapin Carpenter’s album Come Darkness, Come Light: 12 Songs Of Christmas
endeavored to round up songs that haven’t been oversaturated. "Like
everyone else, I love to sing [holiday music] at the top of my lungs,
but I didn't know if I wanted to make a record of it," she told The Richmond Times-Dispatch.
"I didn't think the world needed another Christmas album with just more
commercial music on it. They just wanted a straight-ahead commercial
record, so I would just beg off every year."
The Julianne Hough Holiday Collection was made for
sale exclusively through Target and ended up among country’s Top 10
albums. "I picked all my favorites the ones that I want to wrap
Christmas presents to, or listen to at a big party," she told People. "You can do these classics and put your own twist on it."
Songwriter Gretchen Peters known for Martina McBride’s
"Independence Day" and Faith Hill’s "The Secret Of Life" stepped
outside the usual holiday tone for her album Northern Lights:
"I wondered if I could be honest, as a writer, about the melancholy
that many people feel at Christmas. We all tend to reflect at the end
of the year and our reflections quite naturally include loss and
regret, as well as gratitude and happiness. I wanted to make a
Christmas record that you could listen to at night when you're all
alone and not come away feeling depressed, but instead feeling moved by
the whole of human experience, not just the happy parts."
Elvis Presley Christmas Duets pairs the King with
LeAnn Rimes, Carrie Underwood, Anne Murray and the female members of
Little Big Town. Martina McBride sang with Elvis on "Blue Christmas,"
and she thinks the CD is a no-brainer. "It's Elvis, first of all," she
told The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I just think it's neat to hear other people singing with him, his classic... songs."
Faith Hill made her album Joy To The World over
several years and across several seasons. "You would think it would be
difficult with it not being the Christmas season," she told Reuters,
"but when you record something that you're really proud of, it kind of
stands the test of time, any time of the year."
You can see Faith singing those songs throughout Christmas Day on GAC. The special Faith Hill, Joy To The World airs on GAC at 10 p.m. ET on Christmas Eve and three times on Christmas Day: 2 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET.

LeAnn Rimes’ Tender Introduction
Dec. 22, 2008 LeAnn Rimes has come out in the last few years as a
victim of psoriasis, an embarrassing condition that creates patches of
red, itchy skin.
During her school years, she often felt isolated from
classmates, particularly when they called her "scaly girl." LeAnn
avoided wearing shorts and swimsuits and she eventually addressed it in
personal therapy. Interestingly, she was suffering from an outbreak of
it in 2001 when she was introduced to Dean Sheremet.
"When my husband and I first met, my whole stomach was
covered," she told Health.com. "In the first 15 minutes that I met him,
I told him, ‘I have this thing called psoriasis.’ He said, ‘Oh, one of
my best friends actually has that.’ I got really lucky with someone who
knew what it was."
Psoriasis is manageable, physically and emotionally. And it’s
not a condition that should prevent anyone from having a successful
love life.
"Number one, if you find the right person, they will accept you no
matter what," LeAnn said. "Number two, you have to have the confidence
within yourself to say, ‘This is who I am.’ You can't love someone else
without being able to love yourself. That's where it starts, and if
it's the right person, they'll get it. If not, it tells you it's time
to move on."
In the case of LeAnn and Dean, the relationship has succeeded
both personally and professionally. The two of them were co-writers on
her hit "Nothin’ Better To Do."
LeAnn is currently featured on "Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)" in the album Elvis Presley Christmas Duets.
Others on the project include Sara Evans, Carrie Underwood, Gretchen
Wilson, Martina McBride, Wynonna Judd and the female members of Little
Big Town.

Martina McBride on 20 Years of Marriage
Dec. 15, 2008 Martina McBride and her husband, John, celebrated
their 20th wedding anniversary this year. Plenty of relationships never
make the two-decade mark, and Martina says one of the keys to longevity
is to recognize that a marriage goes through numerous changes after the
newness of the ceremony wears off.
"I think you have to work through that," she says. "It’s not
gonna always be exciting. There are obviously different phases to a
relationship, and at 20 years, it’s not gonna be the same as the first
year. I think there’s times that go by, periods of time when you think,
‘Well, this isn’t what it used to be.’ But it’s different. I think
people sometimes get to a point where they give up instead of workin’
through that sort of down point, the part where you really get
comfortable with each other. This ain’t what it used to be, but it’s
still exciting in its own way."
Martina’s newest relationship is not a romantic one. She’s
teamed through studio technology with the late Elvis Presley in a new
version of his classic "Blue Christmas." It’s featured on the Elvis CD Christmas Duets, which also features LeAnn Rimes, Sara Evans, Carrie Underwood, Gretchen Wilson and the female members of Little Big Town.

Sara sings National Anthem before University of Alabama sellout game
Sara Evans may just have been the University of Alabama’s lucky charm this past weekend, as she kicked off the game which ended a six-year losing streak to bitter rival Auburn with a 36-0 win in college football. Wearing husband Jay Barker’s (former Alabama quarterback) number “7”, the singer performed the National Anthem for the first time ever at an Alabama game in front of a sellout crowd of 92,138 jubilant fans who packed Bryant-Denny Stadium last Saturday. watch video : here Photo credit: University of Alabama Photography. Martina McBride Goes Back in Time
Dec. 1, 2008 When Elvis Presley appeared in his 1968 comeback TV special, he was in the second year of his marriage to Priscilla Presley.
With that in mind, Martina McBride was dressed in Priscilla-like
make up a ‘60s-style hairdo and long eyelashes when producers added
her to Elvis’ comeback-special concert performance of "Blue Christmas"
for a new video. Martina is GAC's Artist of the Month for December.
She's also one of several current female acts including Carrie
Underwood, Gretchen Wilson, Sara Evans, Amy Grant, Wynonna and the
female members of Little Big Town who overdubbed their voices to the
King’s original recordings for the new holiday album Elvis Presley Christmas Duets.
"Blue Christmas" was "one of my dad’s favorite songs growing up," Martina told The Memphis Commercial Appeal. And that made it easy for her to select what song she’d do with Elvis.
She recently flipped the switch to turn on the now-traditional
blue Christmas lights at Elvis’ former home, Graceland Mansion. She
took her first tour of the mansion while she was there and has an
appreciation for his artistry, even though wasn’t quite a teenager when
he died at Graceland in 1977.
"I'm a huge Elvis fan," she said. "I doubt that something like
that will ever happen again. We were in a much more innocent place
then. He was very talented and very beautiful, and there was a mystery
there."
Elvis Presley Christmas Duets has reached No. 5 on the Billboard country albums chart.

CMA Winner Celebrates Elvis Presley
Nov. 25, 2008 Elvis Presley is a member of both the Rock &
Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame, and he’s ranked
at No. 3 on the Rolling Stone list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All-Time.
He’s referred to as a "transformer" in the magazine by fellow
Rock Hall member Robert Plant, the Led Zeppelin singer who just won his
first Country Music Association
award two weeks ago. Growing up in England, Robert’s first exposure to
the King came with the 1957 hit "Hound Dog," which made a huge
impression.
"I wasn’t equipped with any of the knowledge I have now, about
the Big Mama Thornton version or where all that swing was coming from,"
Robert writes. "I just heard this voice, and it was absolutely, totally
in its own place. The voice was confident, insinuating and taking no
prisoners. He had those great whoops and diving moments, those sustains
that swoop down to the note like a bird of prey. I took all that in."
Robert’s CMA award came for his collaboration with Alison
Krauss on "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)." The latest Elvis album is
likewise a collaborative effort, thanks to studio overdub technology. Elvis Presley Christmas Duets pairs him with the likes of Sara Evans, Martina McBride, LeAnn Rimes and Gretchen Wilson.
